As a former Division I soccer player and a member of the New York State Girls Soccer Hall of Fame, I understand the drive, discipline, and dedication it takes to excel. These qualities not only defined my athletic career but also laid the foundation for my journey as a leader and coach.

While my athletic career was a defining chapter, it wasn’t the whole story.

I invested time and effort into developing other interests and talents, which not only made me a more well-rounded individual but also helped me face the inevitable day when my sport came to an end. Trust me, it was still one of the most difficult times of my life. It was a painful loss that I grieved for a long time. I asked myself a lot of questions during that transition…Who am I? What do I do now? What’s my purpose? How do people see me? Am I still valued for who I am or just what I could do on the field?

I wasn’t sure where I fit anymore.

I imagined the transition from my sport into a professional career would be hard, but I didn’t know how hard until I got there. I went from being an expert in my sport to a rookie in a whole new career which left me feeling a bit insecure and like a fish out of water.

It took time for me to finally see how my sport had been preparing me for a successful career all along.

The skills I honed as an athlete—leadership, strategic thinking, resilience, determination, strong communication, and teamwork—became the foundation for my next chapter.
